Report on SteamFest 2014

THE ADVOCATE – REPORT – TUESDAY, MARCH 18th 2014
by Kentish Mayor – Mr Don Thwaites.
What a wonderful event Steamfest is.
Congratulations and many thanks to the Redwater Creek Steam & Heritage Society and friends for
their enthusiasm and hard work to put the 20th Steamfest together.
The equipment, machines, models, demonstrations and displays, along with the many stalls,
attract thousands of people to Sheffield each year.
I wish to thank all the volunteers who helped set up and clean up afterwards.
It would not be possible without them.
Tasmanian Governor Peter Underwood officially opened the event and enjoyed the grand parade.
The visiting dignitaries – including new patron Lyons MP Eric Hutchinson and the many visiting
MLC’s and MHA’s and election candidates – all enjoyed the opening day.
A special thanks to teenagers Mitchell and Daniel who helped out all the weekend.
It is wonderful to see some young people actively involved in the community.
Sheffield businesses benefit during the weekend from the huge numbers of visitors to Steamfest
and the Gowrie Park Rodeo.
Events such as these really bring prosperity and colour to our area.
