FIND US in Sheffield – the Town of Murals
For 25 years, since 1994, the Tasmanian SteamFest has been held on the second weekend of every March (a long weekend here!) in the lovely town of Sheffield in North West Tasmania. This year, 2019, we’ll be marking 25 years since the first SteamFest took place and the 26th time it’s been held so come and join in the celebrations with us! In 2018 we welcomed more than 8000 patrons to our 25th SteamFest – one of the largest we have ever held. SteamFest transforms our site in Spring Street into a festival like no other:  more than 100 food and craft stalls set up across the site, steam machinery demonstrations running all day, the usually quiet surrounds filled with happy crowds, steam and smoke, engine sounds and the whistle of the steam train crossing the site all day long against the stunning backdrop of Mt Roland. Over the years SteamFest has won several major awards, most recently a Silver Award in the 2014 Tasmanian State Tourism Awards – Festival Category.
Sheffield is known as “The Town of Murals” for the murals which can be found painted on walls and buildings all over this lovely country town and since 2003 Sheffield has been holding an  International MuralFest competition which attracts artists from all over the world. There’s something for everyone here so, while in Sheffield for SteamFest, take the time to enjoy the wonderful murals all around Sheffield! Don’t forget to take lots of photos while you’re here to show family and friends this cradle country
